At the height of the cold weather last winter 3500 new claims a day were being reported to UK Insurers. According to the ABI the average cost of these claims was £7000 each adding up to a staggering £24,500,000 a day.

Traditional weather forecasting is limited to a view up to 16 days ahead and becomes more accurate as the time between forecast and event reduces. However there are some weather forecasting services that offer a much longer term view using less well established science. At Towergate Underwriting we believe that the human and financial cost of these events is so significant that we review both to try to build as comprehensive view as we can.

The longer term forecasts are warning of more severe cold weather this winter and so we have produced some fact sheets offering advice to policyholders to help them minimise disruption and limit damages should the worse happen.
